Unit 69 - Concept Art

At the beginning of my games development course, i had to do a concept art unit. The aim was to design a character, an object and a landscape, then combine them to create a poster for a the comic book hero.

I began by researching the weponary that my character would use, and then designed them using Adobe Illustrator

once i had decided that these were what i wanted, i began work on my character. My idea was that my hero wouldnt have a diguise or alter-ego, so he would be in plain clothes. to do this, i took a picture of myself and sketched it for a first design of what i wanted.

after this, i then re-drew the character in different poses, and once i decided which was best, i coloured both the good and evil versions of the character using Illustrator

these were both also created by taking pictures of myself and sketching them

the next step would be to create a landscape. my idea was to have a cityscape in the background, so i used a picture i had previously taken and edited, and simpified the colours in the photo to make it coincide with the style of the colours and characters

the last step was to put it all together with a title, i wanted something clever and humerous, so i went with Knight and Dave a play on words wich i suppose isnt really that funny, but it works

this is the final piece, where i added a skyline using cloud brushes in photoshop, and a cliff edge made from a photo that has been blured slightly.
