The first step to take was creating the company name and logo. I experimented with a lot of options such as; Atom, Proton, Venom, Recoil and a few others until I finally decided on Electron. so i got to work on designing a logo, and I pretty much stuck with my first design. Its bold, it stands out, and its recognisable.
The next step was to find a suitable colour for the logo which would define my company and make the logo stand out amongst others, and I cant say I was short of ideas...
I made these so I could get opinions from my classmates as to which they liked and which stood out the most. a lot of different opinions were made, but the majority went for a certain blue and white version of the logo. and after a little colour adjustment I was left with my final logo.
one all that was out of the way, I focused on designing some features that would be in my game. I settled on doing a space shooter named Gliese 581, a distant planet which humans have inhabited. the obvious choice was to design weapons, as the main aspect of the game was for it to be a shooter, and so i got to work.
Assault Rifle
Pistol
SMG
Sniper Rifle
I settled for just these few weapons, as I did not want my magazine article to be overrun by weapons. so i also thought to design the main character, some of the creatures from the planet, and the main mode of transport within the game.
once I was happy with the designs I came up with, I used a mixture of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to outline, colour and detail the pictures, and I think they now look pretty damn good if I do say so myself
I decided I wanted some more realistic pictures along side the concept drawings, and so i used photoshop to create the planet itself. using various filters and colouring options i managed to create a rather realistic planet. i used these to create some box art for my game too.
And that concluded all the graphics I would put into my article, the only thing to do now was position them on the page and write the article itself, I also added aspects of what is seen in Edge magazine articles to make it look more professional for a finished look
